Summer is at an end. For many students, this means a new year of opportunity and accomplishment. For others, it signals an upcoming set of deadlines for their university application. Regardless of which camp your child is in, here are a couple of events that can kickstart the next year of school:

For undergraduate and postgraduate applicants (ages 12 - 25):

  • From adversity to resilience: Climate justice in developing countries: For those who are interested in the intersection between International Relations, Economics and Climate Science, a more perfect event couldn't have come along soon enough! Hosted at LSE, this event brings together a panel of experts discussing the struggles that developing countries are facing because of the climate crisis. The panellists include the Policy Advisor to the President of Zambia, a Professor of Economics at LSE and Pakistan's ambassador to the World Trade Organisation. This panel promises to be highly informative and will look strong on an applicant's CV. 12 September (6:30-8:00 PM). Online and In-Person options are available.
  • Oxford Open Day: Is your child thinking about applying to Oxford, whether it be a last-minute choice, or looking to the years ahead? Consider 15 September your opportunity to find out more. Many faculties and colleges are opening their doors to provide students with tours, advice and information about all things Oxford. This is the perfect opportunity for students to learn about key processes such as the interview, and students can get answers that are not found easily online. The event starts at 8:00 AM and finishes at 6:00 PM. For more information about specific faculties and colleges, please click here.

Best Video Highlights

  • What is the Thinking Skills Assessment? In approximately 6 weeks, students all across the world applying to courses such as Geography, Psychology and Economics at Oxford will be required to take the Thinking Skills Assessment (also known as the TSA). This is a tough test, requiring students to have sound mathematical and critical thinking skills. For some applicants, they will also have to write an essay. In this video, I talk to a TSA tutor who explains what the test entails and some tips on how to prepare for it.
  • What makes MIT Special? MIT is a name many people have heard of, but few know a lot about it. In this video, I run through exactly what makes MIT so special and dispel some myths about MIT only being successful when it comes to science. I also discuss funding and some other advantages of going to the university.
  • What it is like to study economics at university? : In this video, we break down what an average week looks like for someone who studies economics at university. Joined by a Cambridge Economics student, we provide a detailed look at what to expect from a demanding course, including things such as work-life balance and what graduate-level study looks like.
